ok I watch animal cops houston, and they'll rescue a dog and treat em for like 4 wks, then they will give em a aggressive test with a fake hand going at them and if they snap they put the dog down. This drives me crazy I don't get this does this make sense to any one else! They can be reconditioned or just this fake plastic thing coming at em could confuse them! anybody's oppinion!

respect also must be given. if you have an animal that doesn't like to be bothered when eating then leave it alone you would want the same respect. ow understand i don't mean one that will bite over it that must never happen. just give the respect you would want your self.

I often cry @ these shows & there are times I just click it off, but often turn it back on because I want to see the outcome.
I believe it is a time & money thing. I believe most animals can be worked with. All they need to be given is love just love, love,love...
I believe love & understanding is needed & willingness is the key.

I do understand the fake hand test. Yes it's true that some dogs can be worked with and change but sadly many do not. If a dog has been starved for many years or even months they get protective of their food and nothing you do can change that. I also watch all those shows for everywhere and even if the dog fails that test if its fine with the others they usually do work with it, however if the dog fails every test they do at times have to put them down, they don't have the time or money to fix every dog that goes in there. It's sad and I cry with many episodes but sadly that's how it is. If people would stop treating their animals so poorly none of it would have to happen. Also I do know that usually before they put the animal down they look into "rehab" centers around their location to try to get the animal in there and then if they're are unable to that's when they make the hard dicision of putting them down. The test I don't believe in is the doll, my pit is petrified of larger dolls and will bark, growl, snarl and sometimes attack them, HOWEVER, when it comes to an actual child, oh lord she's the licking queen and all she wants to do is play with them.

I agree with Jessica, not all shelters have the time, space and money to work with these dogs, and not every pet owner has the training or understanding to work with these dogs. I volunteer at a shelter and it is a very hard decision to do when we have to put a dog down for aggression. We agonize over every one and do our best to work with them before putting them down. The other problem we run into is if we do place these dogs into homes and they bite or attack someone we could be held liable because we knew the dog was aggressive. We don't want an injury or death of a child on our hands, nor do we want a lawsuit.

It is inexcusable.

This is the old way of assessment which condemns animals that need structure and training. There are instances when a dog's aggression is "mental defect" akin to severe neurological disorders in humans.

Dogs suffering stress, fear, or alpha related anxieties are salvageable most of the time. The problem is space and money for a good trainer that can save the animal.

The television show will showcase an animal that is euthanized to emphasize the shock value of putting down an animal that you bonded with during the show.
